Past Failures and Trauma

This situation is very common. Remember when you wanted to be productive? I wanted to achieve something in life. I have tried to create timelines, goals, and processes. In fact, it was excellent and successful initially. But later it became dull. This failure is implanted so badly in your mind. You cannot get over the self-inflicted insult. This is one of the most common blocks for time management.

Comparison With Others

We compare ourselves with others. In front of their success, their routine, and their skills, you feel inferior. Hence, you give up while doing time management. It discourages you from putting steps forward to be productive. Know that you are the only person to compare yourself to. Also, there is no one-to-one connection between time management and success. But time management enables success and achievement. It makes you more prepared to achieve things you want.

I thought it was straightforward.

You thought time management was easy. Know that it is not easy. It needs patience, practice, revision, and strength to manage time. It is no easy skill. You have to fail 100 times before you can master it. It looks simple when learned. It's extremely hard to practice. It's even harder to continue doing effective time management. It will be a constant struggle until you master it.

There are too many tasks to complete!

When doing time management, you mostly pull in many tasks in many different domains. It is ok to have multiple tasks from different domains. But you know that domain switching reduces productivity. This reduces the chances of completing the task. You cannot have your legs on two boats and expect to reach the shore. So try to do the minimal tasks that you can achieve.

The Mood

Some people tend to be moody. You wait for that kick to start a task. This blocks time management. Time management requires you to complete tasks regardless of your mood. There is a power in doing things when you don't want to. To assess the validity of this, consider participating in activities even when you may not feel inclined to do so.

Having Paths and Processes Can Become Obstacle

A process or path that you think will help you with time management can, in fact, become an obstacle. So be careful about the process or path you choose. If it is becoming an obstacle to achieving your goals, it is better to revise it.

Sudden Disturbances or anticipated disruptions

Anticipating a potential disturbance, you decide to delay the task. Keep in mind that disturbances are normal, so your time management should anticipate them. And any disturbance should not be treated as a failure. No one does time management 100% perfectly. It is neither white nor black. It's about the percentage of acceptable success. For example, if you are 70% successful in time management, you are still progressing a lot more than you would.

All-or-Nothing Approach

Time management is NOT an all-or-nothing approach. You will always fall short of your goals. And it is a good thing. Gaps in not achieving will teach you something and help you blossom. There should be progress, not perfection. Perfection is death; progress is life.

Too Future Thinking

Thinking too much about the future blocks time management. What will happen if I do this? What will happen if I don't do this? Don't think too much. The present is yours, the past is gone, and the future no one has seen. So make use of the present. Do time management. Do the tasks in the present.

I Have Time

If you think you have time and can do things tomorrow, I have terrible news for you. We don't have too much time. If you don't achieve what you want, then in the future someone else will do it. So time is too short to achieve things. Often when you start doing things, you realize it takes much longer than you initially expected. This is because when you start doing the task, you start seeing its complexity. You begin to learn more about the tasks that you have never encountered in books or courses.Tasks are more complicated, and no one can teach them fully. It is you who has to navigate.

Avoid Bitter Truth

When you start doing time management, you start seeing bitter truths about yourself. You start seeing the flaws. You may find it challenging to accept it. Sometimes you do not want to accept it. Perhaps you could consider pausing your time management activities.

The body and mind are not cooperating.

Body and mind do not cooperate with your heart. This is very common and happens to everyone. For one who can command body and mind, time management becomes effortless. But controlling body and mind is not straightforward at all. So take up some hobby like walking, trekking, solving puzzles, or meditation to bring body and mind to ease. Some mental conditions, like ADHD and daydreaming, also make it difficult to perform time management.

Addictions

Some addictions, mostly social media, will make you stop achieving tasks at hand. You just want to lazily get some temporary entertainment. You starve for a dopamine kick. So addictions can become a major blocker for time management.

Convictions

You are not convinced that you need to do time management to achieve something in life. Read this blog to learn why one should manage his time.
